LIMP mode

Limp Mode

The Autohex Limp Mode Off Module is a specialized tool that enables users to disable the vehicle’s limp mode directly through the ECU (Engine Control Unit). Limp mode, which is also commonly referred to as “limp home mode,” is a protective feature built into modern vehicles to safeguard the engine and transmission systems. It is automatically activated when the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system detects a fault or anomaly, such as issues with sensors, engine components, or transmission systems.

When a vehicle enters limp mode, it intentionally limits the engine’s performance to prevent further damage and allow the driver to safely reach a service center. In this mode, the vehicle typically experiences significantly reduced power output, a limited maximum speed, and restrictions on gear selection—particularly in automatic transmissions, where shifting may be limited to a single gear or a reduced number of gears. Along with these performance restrictions, warning lights such as the check engine light or other diagnostic indicators are usually illuminated on the dashboard to alert the driver of a potential issue.
